Sixth-Grade Camp Goes Well

The Class of 2017 did very well at Sixth-Grade Camp last week. Some of the highlights were the girls winning the annual Capture the Flag game on Wednesday night. The girls managed to track down the guys flag in world record time. They were so fast that Ms. Iverson didn't even have a chance to give them tips.

The weather on Thursday was great. Each group did very well at baking chocolate-chips cookies that would be so helpful for our lunch on Friday. We capped off Thursday with a great campfire and sing-along.

Our trip down the St. Croix River on Friday was another highlight. We managed to get down the river in record time and without anyone having a meltdown due to excessive frustration with canoes that seem to have a mind of their own at times.

Now it is time to buckle down and establish those routines in class.

Good job sixth graders!

Getting Ready for School

So it is the middle of August and I still have all these books I to read. I wish my pergola project in the backyard was done so that I could spent mornings and evenings outside reading.

This has been a summer of somewhat disappointing reads. Right now I am reading Chains and it is the most interesting title I have read to date. Earlier in the summer I battled through The Red Pyramid and that was okay, but not my favorite. Too many gods rushing in and rushing out, and I thought the female lead had an accent that came and went (which I found distracting). I also finished The Green Glass Sea, which I enjoyed. I thought GGS was very well done for historical fiction. There were bits and pieces of history, but you weren't bludgeoned by it. The main characters were unusual, which I usually enjoy and I thought they were believable. A good read, especially if you have any interest in The Manhattan Project and World War Two.
